Manny: I'm quitting soccor. It is a game for a children.

- 저 축구 그만둘래요. 축구는 어린애들 게임이에요.

 

Gloria: No. you are not quitting. you would have stopped that goal. if you weren't staring at the little girl.

- 안돼, 못그만둬. 너가 그 여자애만 쳐다보고 있지 않았어도, 그 골을 막았을거야.

would have p.p : ~했었을텐데(하지 못했다)

 

Manny: She is not a girl. she is a woman.

- 여자애가 아니라 여성이에요.

 

Jay: You know, Gloria, that little blow up with the other mom, why do you have to do things like that?

- 글로리아, 다른 학부모한테 열냈던 거 말이야. 왜 그렇게 화를 내고 그래?

blow up : to become very angry 

 

Gloria: If somebody says something about my family, i'm going to- 

- 누구든지 내 가족한테 무슨 말이라도 해봐, 내가- 

 

Jay: I'm just saying, you could take it down here a little bit, that's all.

- 내 말은, 너무 흥분하지 말라고. 그게 다야.

 

Gloria: Oh, yeah. Cause that's where you live down here. But i live up here.

- 그렇겠지, 당신은 차분한 사람이니까. 하지만 난 쉽게 열받는다고. 

 

Jay: You don't have to be so emotional all the time. That's all what i'm saying. Manny, you are with me on this, right?

- 매번 그렇게 감정적일 필요는 없어. 매니 너도 동의하지?

 

Manny: I wanna tell Brenda Felmen. I love her.

- 브렌다 펠먼한테 사랑한다고 말하고 싶어요.

 

Jay: Oh, for God sakes.

- 맙소사.

 

Gloria: Manny, she is 16.

- 매니, 걔 16살이야.

 

Manny: Oh, it's okay for you to take an older lover?

- 오, 엄마는 나이 많은 사람 사랑하는 거 괜찮고요?

 

Jay: hey. watch it.

- 말조심해.

 

Manny: I wanna go to the mall where she works. The first I need to get my white shirt, the silk one.

- 그녀가 일하는 가게에 갈래요. 먼저 내 흰색 셔츠를 가지러 가야겠어요. 실크로 된 거요. 

 

Gloria: Okay. that's what you really want to do.

- 알겠어. 너가 정말 원한다면 그렇게 해.

 

Jay: Seriously. Not to be the evill stepdad, but if you put on a puppy white shirt and declare your love for a 16 year old, you are gonna be swinging from the flagpole in your puffy white under pants.

- 진지하게 말하는데. 나쁜 새아빠라서가 아니라. 만약 네가 그 흰색 셔츠를 입고 16살짜리 애한테 사랑고백을 하면 아주 우스운 꼴을 당하게 될거야.

Manny: Stop the car.

- 차 세우세요.

 

Gloria: Oh, where are you going? you see? you hurt his feeling.

- 어디가니? 봤지? 당신이 애 마음에 상처를 줬어.

 

Jay: Ah- well, if it toughens him up a little bit then- Oh, geez. He's picking flowers.

- 뭐, 그렇게 해서 조금이라도 강해진다면- 오 맙소사. 꽃을 꺾고 있잖아. 

toughen up: to become stronger and better able to deal with difficult situations; to make somebody stronger in this way

 

+Interview scene

 

Gloria: Manny is very passionate, just like his father. my first husband, he is very handsome, but too crazy. It seemed like all we did was fight and make love, fight and make love, fight and make love, one time i'm not kidding you, we fell out the window together.

- 매니는 아빠를 닮아서 엄청 열정적이에요. 제 첫 번째 남편은 정말 잘생겼지만 정상이 아니었죠. 우리가 했던 거라고는 싸우고 사랑을 나누고, 싸우고 사랑을 나누고, 싸우고 사랑을 나누고, 농담이 아니라 한 번은 창문 밖으로 같이 떨어진 적도 있다니까요.

 

Jay: Which one were you doing? i'm hearing this for the first time.

- 둘 중에 뭘 하다가? 저도 처음 듣는 이야기네요.
